Remember the Night Rainbow

When I was growing up, my grandmother had this book called “If You’re Afraid of the Dark, Remember the Night Rainbow.” It’s a beautiful book, full of gorgeous illustrations and quirky advice, perhaps designed for children to laugh at. And yet, underlying all of the advice is the idea that there is whimsy and beauty in the world, and when we are faced with difficulty, we can get through it with creativity, community, and not taking ourselves too seriously.

I wanted to bring that energy into my practice: when we’re afraid of the darkness out there and in here, we survive by finding the light spots and connecting with others and ourselves.

We are the darkness and we are also the light, beauty, and color of the night rainbow. Remember that you’re both.
